Hug A Reindeer

Sorry, no kid's rooms reveal update today. My editing team is off. Something about 'wanting a half day to spend time with family AND still get their two shillings and a half penny.' Can you believe that? Bah Humbug you greedy bastards.

The other day I had the privilege of displaying my craft at a holiday boutique at Ms. Ada's exquisite McMansion.  Ridiculously lovely home. I'd be lying if I said that I didn't consider riding the grand, decorative flying reindeer that was on dazzling display in the atrium in front of the spiral staircase.  On Dasher!

I digress.

The pep talk that I got from Mr beforehand was, "Don't accept any custom orders. You don't have time. Say 'no.' You can do it."

So, here is the Santa plate that I just finished for Ada.

To my defense, Ada is a mean negotiator.

Ada: Do you have another Santa cookie plate?
Me: No.  But, I could make one.
Ada: Are you sure you have time for that.
Me: Sure. I'll even send you some new design drafts so you can pick out what you like best.
Ada: Great!

See. I can't compete with that.  It was honestly the least that I could do for her opening up her home for the boutique...and the least I could do for all those naughty thoughts of doing one quick leg swing to mount and then acting out the galloping motion on her gilded deer.

Boutique Love: Santaur

Thanks to all who supported me at the MPCC indoor boutique this last weekend, and a big hello to my new friends!  It is always a treat to meet new people, talk about creating new things, and attend an event that has a giant bake sale table.

I brought out some of my painted plates and excitedly debuted my new holiday blocks.

They come in a set of three and are available on my new etsy site here.  While it was fun to sell them, the most creative pleasure came from the lost sale to my new red-headed-5ish-little-boy BFF.  He enjoyed making some different combos and started the high-pitched beg to his mom.  She said that she would think about and continued checking out the vendors.  She browsed while my little ginger prince kept trying to tug her back to my table with all his might.  When he was pulled sadly out the door about 20 minutes later we almost had one of those slow motion movie moments where we reached out one hand for each other while mouthing the prolonged 'Nooooooo!'  Likely he had forgotten about the blocks by the time he made it to the car, but I am choosing to believe he spent that night tossing and turning while developing a plan to escape his drab home, tricycle it back down to the boutique with his piggy bank and spend the rest of the night giddily making every combo available out of the three blocks.

Of course his favorite, like mine, would be the Santaur combo.

Christmas Craft: Intel

I survived my first craft fair!  I did more than survive...I met some amazing people, got great ideas and only ate one of the delicious cookies they had out for everyone.  And by 'one' I mean one per day.

I am currently working on two of these custom cactus plates for a lovely lady that had family visiting Arizona for the holidays.

I finished a rush order of the snowflake plate to be given this weekend to a visitor from England.  I am so excited that a piece of my art will be in England!  So excited that I forgot to sign the back before I handed it over...I guess William and Kate won't be calling for an order as soon as I thought.

Generally, I label my style as sassy and contemporary rather than cute, but I would call the snow people ornaments I made 'cute' ... or 'cutetastic' and I love them.  So much that I just want to keep making variations all day.  My husband would be so pleased if I did that...maybe.
